Dixie Lee McKenzie-Turner nee Mason, 81 years old, of Statesville, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. Dixie was born in South Carolina on February 6, 1942, to the late William Hydrick and Alma Newell Mason.
Dixie was an avid writer and storyteller. She loved to entertain guest with tales from her life. From exploits traveling across the country to a stint in the army, her adventures were at times, unbelievable. She took every opportunity to be of assistance. The only thing she held to more passionately than being a writer was her faith. Between all her children’s stories of the little lost puppy, she wrote extensively of her belief in God in heaven. She heard Christ in everything from the word to the song of birds.
Dixie was preceded in death by her son James Clarence McKenzie III, grandson Jonathan Shumpert, and brother John Newell Mason. She is survived by her children John McKenzie (Janet), Donna Valentino, Kay McKenzie-Williams, Spencer McKenzie (Vanessa “Bonnie”), grandchildren Amber, Nina, John Christian, Amanda, Antonio, James “Kyle”, Thomas, Lily, and Ella, as well as seven great grandchildren.
Dixie will be laid to rest at Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023. We invite all our family and friends to join the memorial service celebrating Dixie. The service will be held in the church at 11:00 am EST.
