Mr. Wilson of Landis, NC, went home to be with his Lord on September 15, 2025.
He was born in Charlotte, NC on August 11, 1931, to the late Austin David and Jollie Belle Purser Wilson. He was also predeceased by his brother, Larry.
He was educated in the Charlotte public schools and graduated from Tech High in 1949. While at Tech he was active in sports and received a high school music award his senior year.
When the Korean War broke out he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was privileged to serve from 1951 - 1955. After basic training and advanced training in San Diego and Imperial Beach, CA, he spent 1 1/2 years overseas and his last year at NSA Headquarters, Arlington Hall, VA.
Upon his Honorable Discharge from service he continued his education at Catawba College and the North Carolina School of Broadcasting. While at Catawba he met and married Marianne Corriher of Landis.
His work in broadcasting involved on-air programming and sponsor marketing. The family was transferred to Georgia in the early sixties where he was involved in retail and wholesale management, insurance management and real estate development until retiring and moving back to North Carolina in 2002.
Since returning to NC, Dave and Marianne have been active members of Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell. They have also been actively involved with The Gideons International for over 50 years. (since 1966). Dave has also been a member of Lions International, the American Legion, the NRA and the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association. His most important association, however, has been with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; which will continue, by His Grace, throughout eternity.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, (since 12-1956) Marianne; daughter, Julie Smith of Simpsonville, SC; son Jon Wilson of Landis, daughter-in-law Elonda Wilson of Concord, 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great -great grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Brenda Wilson of Matthews; niece Kelli and husband Dr. R. B. Overcash and their children, Kamryn and Austin of Waxhaw, NC.
The homegoing celebration will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC at 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2025. Visitation will be after the service. Pastor John Hutcheson, Rev. David Fulp, and Kenneth Prater will officiate. Following the service, interment, with military honors, will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC.
