Corey Lee Combs, 59, of Kannapolis was ushered into the hands of his Savior, surrounded by his wife and children, on March 5th, 2026, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. He fought Kidney Cancer courageously for the past year. He was born on December 21, 1966, in Alamance County, NC to the late Donnie and Peggy Swainey Combs.
Corey grew up in Graham, NC, where he graduated from Graham High School in 1985. He enjoyed playing all sports, but baseball was his sweet spot. After a short stint at ECU, he transferred to UNC-Charlotte. He was a charter member of the UNCC chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma. It is at UNCC that his big, blue eyes and bright smile, stole Sabrina's heart. They were married in 1991 and moved to Cabarrus County in 1992 to start their family. Corey worked as a warehouse/transportation manager for over 35 years. He enjoyed college sports, where he always pulled for the Wolfpack. He was a Carolina Panther fan from day 1 of the franchise. He enjoyed gardening, playing ball with his furry children and spending time with his family. He loved a good hole-in-the-wall restaurant and would critique the establishment by the size of the holes in the salt shakers.
Those left to remember all of the good times and the great love Corey had for them are his wife of 34 years, Sabrina Justice Combs; his favorite oldest daughter, Mason "Macy"; his favorite son, Parker; his favorite youngest daughter, Ragan; and his VERY soon to be favorite son-in-law, Dawson Cook all of Kannapolis. He was the proud younger brother to Mickey Combs and wife Carol of Advance, Byron Combs and his wife Jan of Lawsonville, and Donald and his wife Kimberly of Concord; Brother-in-law Ron Justice and is wife Kim of Hendersonville and his mother-in-law, Betty Shipman of Kannapolis. He leaves behind a host of very special nieces, nephews and cousins along with his furr favorites, Mendi Sue and Doc.
He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Donnie and Peggy Combs; Uncle Roland Williams and Aunt Ann, Uncle Walt Swainey, Uncle Carl and Aunt Hilda Swainey and all four grandparents. What a welcoming committee!
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Parkwood Baptist Church in the Family Ministry Center, 1069 Central Drive NW, Concord, NC. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Michael Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Parkwood Baptist Church, Sabrina's SHOE SHOW INC. family along with Carolyn, Lisa and Jacqueline Tucker for their constant prayers and support during the past year. The kindness that has been shown to our family over this past year will never be forgotten.
Since Corey loved gardening, please consider live plants, to be planted, so that his family may enjoy the hobby also. Memorials may be made to Parkwood Baptist Church - Youth Ministry.
