Connie Lumsden Brown, 92, of Landis, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 11, 1933, in Stony Point, in Alexander County, North Carolina, to the late Espy Lumsden and Nora Rufty Lumsden.
Connie was a dedicated businesswoman in the Landis community. She co-owned and operated West Lawn Cemetery, Landis Supply, and China Grove Hardware, where she also served as bookkeeper and secretary.
She was also a gifted professional musician, capable of playing ten instruments. She blessed many local churches over the years with her talent, including Homestead Baptist Church. Connie performed with both the North Carolina Symphony and the Charlotte Symphony and had the opportunity to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Cannon High School Marching Band.
Connie found great joy in hosting family gatherings and cooking for her loved ones. She was a loving and faithful wife, a nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Brown, in 2020, after 65 years of marriage; her parents, Espy and Nora Lumsden; and 13 siblings, John Lumsden, Margaret Lumsden, Harold Lumsden, James Lumsden, Nellie Lumsden, Sadie Lumsden, Myrtle Lumsden, Clara Lumsden, Lois Lumsden, Maxine Lumsden, Sideny Lumsden, Gladys Lumsden and Erma Lumsden.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Dennis Brown (Karen) and Terry Brown; her much-loved grandchildren: Travis Brown, Terrin Wright (Jacob), Katie Davis (Robert), Tyler Brown (Chelsea), Ali Lefebvre (Jonnie), and Chandler Brown (Brianna); and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mitch Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
