Command Sergeant Major Dana Franklin Jarrett, simply known by family and friends as Dan, 88, of Kannapolis passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer on March 14, 2024. Dan was born August 24, 1935 in Rockingham County, a son of the late Oscar and Viola Strutton Jarrett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Castor.
Dan was a graduate of Winecoff High School Class of 1953 and later attended Biscayne Business College. He was a veteran of the US Army. He completed Basic Training in Ft. Jackson, SC on Dec. 6, 1954. He was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. 11th Airborne Div. with Medical Detachment in 1955. He served in Germany from June 1956-May 1957 and then was put on Active Reserves in May of 1957. His total time with the US Army was 32 years 7 months and graduated Command Sergeant Major Academy July 1984. He was discharged from the 108th Division Training Unit on Dec 31, 1986. He was a proud, active member of the Beaver-Pittman American Legion Post 115 in Kannapolis.
Dan retired from Physicians Sales and Service, Charlotte, NC. Dan was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping with his family, attending events for his great grandchildren, loved singing and listening to gospel music.
His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM - Friday March 22, 2024 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life and love of Dan Jarrett will be held at 1:00 PM - Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Jim Harris. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with full military rites.
Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annie Lee Styers Jarrett; son, Dana R. Jarrett (Kelly), daughters, Vickie Jarrett Shue (Randy), Debra Jarrett Ponder (Rick); grandchildren, Brenton Jarrett (Torrie), Shanna Allen (Travis), Nicole Keaton (Scott), Preston Shue (Jessica), Candice Wilhelm (Brett), Caitlin Cannon (Jerek), Cassity Tucker (Allen); great grandchildren, Bentley Jarrett, Baize Jarrett, Beacon Jarrett, Braven Jarrett, Reese Allen, Tate Allen, Pheobe Keaton, Rylan Keaton, Easton Shue, Delaney Shue, Jayden Sanders, Coralynn Wilhelm, Brooks Wilhelm, Colt Cannon, River Cannon and his sisters, June Caudle (George), Sylvia Overcash, Ann Parker (Buck) along with many nieces, nephews and their families.
Memorials may be made to the Beaver-Pittman American Legion Post 115, 615 S. Main Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081, in care of the scholarship fund or Atrium Health Hospice and Palliative Care Cabarrus County.
