Clarence Edward Mayo, a beloved member of the Kannapolis community, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. Born on February 21, 1947, in Bibb County, he embodied a dedication to family and civic engagement throughout his life.
Clarence was a proud Vietnam Navy Veteran, and his service to his country was a significant part of his identity. Following his military service, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning various businesses that contributed to the local economy and reflected his commitment to community development. Known for his family-driven personality, Clarence always placed his loved ones at the forefront of his endeavors.
He is perhaps most proud of his enduring marriage to Brenda Mayo, with whom he shared 53 loving years before her passing. Their partnership was a testament to love and devotion, marking a legacy that will live on through their children.
Clarence is survived by his daughter, Nickie Hodges (Dale), and son, Chris Mayo (Amanda), both of whom continue to honor their father's values and teachings. He is also survived by two loving grandchildren, Layne Mayo and Nathan Mayo. He was a source of strength and inspiration for them, guiding them through life's journeys with a kind heart and wise counsel.
Throughout his life, Clarence’s interests included his unwavering support for Alabama Football and a fondness for old country music. He enjoyed moments of relaxation with a Salem cigarette, embracing a lifestyle that brought him joy and comfort.
The family wishes to invite all who knew and loved Clarence to attend visitation services on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Whitley's Funeral Home located at 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday September 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Immediately after, there will be a graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park, beginning at 11:00 AM, located at 601 Mount Olivet Road, Concord, NC 28025. Service will be officiated by Zach Helms.
Clarence Edward Mayo will be remembered for his devotion to family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his love for his community. His legacy will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
