Charles "Gene" Eugene Finney

Charles “Gene” Eugene Finney, 78, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Gene was born on June 14, 1947, in Cabarrus County. He was a cherished son of the late Charles Ray Finney and Katherine Irene Brown Finney.

Gene was a man who found happiness in the simple things he loved most. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, spending time in his garden, and relaxing by the beach. He took great pride in cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events, never missing a chance to be their biggest supporter.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Gene will be remembered for his kind heart and the joy he brought to those around him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Alana Atwater Finney; sons, Chad Finney (Kelly), Kevin Finney (Laura), and David Finney (Crystal); grandchildren, Paige, Natlie, Caden, Casen, Hanna, Haleigh, Cali, William and Addie; brother, Tim Finney; sister, Karen Finney; nephew Matt Finney and niece, Tracy Carter.

The family will receive friends from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 5:30pm in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Smith Officiating.
