Technical Sargent (USAF Retired) Charles T. Carmean, 85, received his final promotion to Glory and joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his waiting wife of 56 years, Laura on March 6, 2026. He was born at home in Meadow Creek , WV on January 31, 1941.
He was a 20 1/2-year military veteran during the Viet Nam Crisis and Cuba Crisis. Starting with four years in the US Navy as a Boilerman, he served on two destroyers (USS Holder & USS Norfolk). In 1963 he transitioned to the USAF and became an airborne radio technician and an instructor in that expertise. During his military career, he was stationed at Plattsburg AFB, NY, Kessler AFB,MS, Sembach AFB Germany, Eglin AFB, FL, and Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. Charles also flew in the C-135 Command and Control aircraft stationed in Takhli AB, Thailand and was awarded the USAF Air medal for his direct support to the Viet Nam Conflict. He was honorably discharged with additional awards in 1980.
Charles was a devoted Husband, cherished father and well-loved Pawpaw. He was a faithful member of Damascus Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Charles also enjoyed traveling with Laura, seeing new sights or visiting places they had enjoyed in their younger years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Willard T. And Nelcie M (Holland) Carmean, his older sister; Anna Marie and his faithful wife; Laura (Teetsel) Carmean.
Those left to cherish his memory, his children, Aaron Carmean, Bethany Rehme (Ken), Adam Carmean (Erika), Keturah Callaway (Eddie) and grandchildren Nevaeh, Drake, Addison, Jax and Cole, his younger brother; Chaplain Lt. Col. Paul Carmean (Johnette) of Morgantown, WV.
A funeral service will be held 6:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Wallace officiating, a visitation will be prior to the service from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Burial will be at Salisbury National Cemetery, Thursday March 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Military Honors by U.S. Airforce.
