Charlene Stirewalt

Charlene Cook Stirewalt, 83, of Kannapolis, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025. She was born January 15, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Charlie and Viola Rodgers Cook.

Charlene grew up in Choctaw, OK with her other 14 siblings until the age of 14. She moved to North Carolina with her husband Clyde Stirewalt. Charlene and Clyde were married on November 30, 1956. He preceded her in death in 2007 after being married 51 years.

Charlene worked at Cannon Mills for over 45 years. She was a faithful member of Independence Square Free Will Baptist Church in Kannapolis for many years. Charlene loved her faith in Jesus.

Charlene was a wonderful, great, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor and friend. She made everyone she met feel welcomed and loved. She showed respect and comfort to all; she never turned her back on anyone. Charlene loved to bake and cook. She made the most wonderful coconut crème cake, banana pudding and fried chicken. She even loved cooking for the church as well.

Those to cherish her memory include her son, Clyde Stirewalt Jr. (Becky) of California; her daughter, Lisa Stirewalt (Jose) of Kannapolis; her grandchildren, Bobby Stirewalt (Tabby), David Carpenter, Michael Stirewalt (Kaitlyn), Leah Burns (Rob) and Tyler Stirewalt; 13 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Margie, Margaret, Linda and Barbara (Junior); one brother-in-law, Jerry; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Sr.; her daughter, Connie Dean Stirewalt; her son, Bobby Wayne Stirewalt Sr. and 14 brothers and sisters.

Friends and family are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am at Whitley's Chapel and burial at West Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor John Futterer and Deacon Liz Fisher officiating.

The family invites all are invited to Porky's BBQ in China Grove, after burial.
