Cari Funderburk Summerford, 59, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, passed away on February 18, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. Born on October 24, 1966, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of Joyce Naomi Prevette Funderburk and the late William Gary Funderburk Sr.
Throughout her life, Cari exemplified love and dedication as a wife, mother, and grandmother. For many years, she served as a daycare teacher at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, where she was also an active member. Her passion for travel took her to the beautiful North Carolina Mountains and the beach, places that brought her joy and peace. Cari will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Gary Funderburk Sr. Cari is survived by her devoted husband of 38 years, Terry Summerford; her mother Joyce Prevette Funderburk, her son, Trevor Summerford; her daughter, Tarin McCubbins, and her husband Tyler; her beloved grandson, Lukas McCubbins; her brother, William “Billy” Funderburk Jr., and his wife Christy; her sister, Ardith Peacock, and her husband Byron; as well as three nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Cari's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Noah Glover and Pastor Dale Bost. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Whitley’s Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to, WE LUV UM Child Care at North Kannapolis United Methodist Church, 1307 N Main St, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
