Monday, October 27, 2025, Brooks Franklin Moore, 79, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Born in Union County, NC, Brooks was the son of the late Grover Curtis Moore and Marybelle Flowe Moore. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Coleen Hill; brother, Larry Moore; and his beloved dogs Freddie, Bo, Luke, Bejux, Brownie, Bubba, Puppy, Dusty, Cody, Pepper, and Tippy.
Brooks is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Phyllis Smith Moore; his best friend and son, Chris Moore (Jennifer) of Hillsborough, NC; and three cherished grandchildren, Eleanor Curtis Moore (Chapel Hill), Ryder Brooks Moore, and Cooper Brann Moore (Hillsborough). He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews Curtis Moore (Goose Creek) and Kyle Hill (Monroe), and nieces Donna Hill (Charlotte) and Laura Hunt (Mt. Holly).
A proud graduate of York High School (1964) and Lees-McRae College (1966) where he excelled in track and field (pole vault), Brooks went on to serve his country honorably during the Vietnam War, with the U.S. Army 9th Infantry division in 1968-1969 where he fought in the battle of the Tet offensive. Upon returning home, he earned his degree in Sociology from Pfeiffer College in 1970.
Brooks dedicated 35 years of his professional life as a Personnel Manager at FieldCrest Cannon/Pillowtex, where he was well respected as a manager who balanced leadership with a personal touch, having mentored many through their career and life’s challenges. In retirement, he embraced life fully—spending time outdoors, becoming an avid gardener, golfing with friends, and bass fishing with his best friend and beloved son, Chris.
Brooks had a gift for making people laugh—whether it was a perfectly timed joke, a playful jab, or just one of his classic one-liners that would leave you smiling for days. His grin was contagious, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, then make you feel better about yourself at the same time. His warmth and humor made every room brighter, and every heart filled with joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at First Reformed Church in Landis, officiated by Pastor David Franks. The burial service will be private.
In honor of Brooks’ lifelong love for animals, memorials may be made to Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary in Salisbury.
