Bobbie Jean Clayton Pressley, 89, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health.
A graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Park, at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 28. 2024 with Rev. Dr. Mary John Dye officiating.
Bobbie was born July 5, 1934, in McDowell County, a daughter of the late Lois H. and Lucy Taylor Clayton. In addition to her parents, Bobbie was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Pressley, her daughter, Jean P. Rutherford and her 3 brothers, Billy, Charles and Daniel Clayton.
Bobbie moved to Kannapolis in junior high and graduated from A. L. Brown High School in 1952. She worked for many years as a teacher’s assistant for Kannapolis City Schools. She was of the Methodist faith. She had a beautiful singing voice and often sang with her mother and two others when visiting her father's churches. She baked delicious cakes and enjoyed sharing them with others. She still cooked lunch every day up until getting too ill two weeks ago. She had beautiful penmanship and would address the envelopes for her daughter and grandchildren's special events. She fiercely loved her grandchildren and all the great grandchildren. Visits from them made her the happiest.
Survivors include her daughter, Gale Pressley Kelly (David) of Kannapolis, her 3 beloved grandchildren; Miranda Tilley (Andrew) of Concord, Casey Jones (Tyler) of Columbia SC and Corbin Murray (Callie) of Kannapolis, her 5 beloved great-grandchildren; Harlan, Leland, Wren, Winter and Wade, her sister, Opal Burris of Kannapolis and many loving nieces and nephews.
