Billy Ray Carter

Billy Ray Carter, 54, of Enochville, passed away on January 8, 2026, at his home. 

Billy was born January 12, 1971, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital to the late James Ray Carter and the Brenda Kay Mills Carter. 

He was also preceded in death by wife of 5 years, Crystal Lynn Tucker Carter and grandparents Bessie Horne Mills and Heath Walter Mills. 

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. – 12:45 P.M. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Whitley's Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis officiated by Pastor Randall Ritchie. Burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery, 601 Mount Olivet Rd, Concord, NC 28025.

Survivors include mother, Brenda Kay Carter of Enochville, NC; daughter, Jennifer Raylynn Carter of Enochville, NC; and aunts and uncles, Edwin Eugene Mills & Donna Mills of Winston-Salem and Larry Wayne Mills & Claudia Mills of Lincolnton, NC. 

Billy was a devoted family man and hardworking individual who took pride in everything he did. He worked for many years at Cannon Mills in the slasher room and later at Car Quest Auto Parts and NAPA Auto Parts, where he was known for his strong work ethic and love of all things automotive. Billy enjoyed spending time with his mother, daughter, and extended family, and he especially cherished the companionship of his beloved dog, Bentley. In his free time, he could often be found working on cars or listening to heavy metal music, proudly counting Ozzy Osbourne among his favorite artists. A graduate of South Rowan High School, Billy was a man of the Baptist faith whose life was rooted in family, faith, and simple pleasures that brought him joy.
