Betty L. Walker

Betty L. Walker, 83, of Kannapolis, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026. She was born September 1, 1942, in Rowan County, to the late Irvin and Ethel Basinger Weant. After the death of her parents, Betty was raised by Edith Weant.

Betty married Larry W. Walker on June 4, 1961, at Grace Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2019.

Betty graduated from China Grove High School. After raising her sons, Betty worked for more than 20 years as a coordinator in the guidance counselor’s office at UNC Charlotte. Betty enjoyed her work there, but her greatest joy was caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. She always put others first and had an incredibly tender heart. Betty had a nurturing spirit and loved helping her family whenever they needed her.

Betty was an active and accomplished woman. She loved being a part of different groups, including the garden club, Toastmasters, and the photography club in Cabarrus County, where she won awards at the fair for her photography. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Courthouse Theatre and the Spencer Train Station. She also spent time tutoring adults who could not read. At the age of 60, Betty ran a marathon, proving that she could accomplish anything she set her mind to.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Jeff Walker and Eric Walker and his wife Tracey; three grandchildren, Logan Walker (Danielle), Katie Walker and Bryan Walker (Ryann); one great grandson, Aiden Walker and many friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM noon to 1:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. John Futterer officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
