Arthur Edward “Ed” Carter, Jr., 80, left earth for his heavenly abode at home on Sunday, October 20, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.

The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis on Sunday, October 27, from 1 to 2pm. The Celebration of Life will be in the Whitley’s Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Reverends John Bostic, Raymond Davis, and Mike Wooldridge officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military rites. At other times the family will meet at the home.

Ed was born August 12, 1944 in Cabarrus County to the late Arthur E. Carter and Helen McDonald Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bryan in 1980. 

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 62 years, Barbara Childress Carter, son Chad Warren Carter and wife Jaclyn, granddaughter Georgia Helen Carter and grandson Conroy Watson Carter of Ridgewood, NJ; brother Tony Wayne Carter, sisters Belinda Phillips (Ross) and Pamela Helms (Jerry), all of Concord, numerous nieces and nephews of three generations who were loved very much, and his business partner and childhood friend, Ann Kirk Wensil and family.

Ed was proud to have served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966, first in Newfoundland and then at Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma. He later was co-owner of Interstate Plumbing Co., Inc. for 35 years with his childhood friend Gene Wensil. He is a member of New Hope Independent FreeWill Baptist Church, and an active member of VFW Post # 6480 of Concord and Moose Lodge # 1722 of Kannapolis.

Memorials to the charity of one’s choice is desired or to causes close to his heart: the Bryan E. Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund at Solid Rock Worship Center, 3000 Centergrove Rd., Kannapolis NC 28083, Hospice of Cabarrus, New Hope FreeWill Baptist Church, 555 Neisler Rd., Concord NC 28025, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Memphis TN, or Samaritan’s Purse for flood relief. 

The family would like to thank Hospice of Cabarrus for the excellent care extended during the past 30 days and especially Brittney and Jenna, the Atrium Health Cabarrus doctors and medical team, Dr. Michael Beckman and Dr. Sara Hawes, and the many friends and family who have helped so much. He loved and was loved by many, a joy to all our lives.
