Mrs. Annie Jeanette Goodnight Vaughn went home to be with our Lord and Savior on June 6 at the amazing age of 104. Known as Aunt Annie to many of those who loved her, she was a true beacon of kindness who has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mrs. Vaughn was born in Rowan County, NC, and was the daughter of Henry Neal Goodnight and Ida Malinda Boger Goodnight. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church in China Grove since her youth.
She worked for many years in the sheet department of Cannon Mills Company in Kannapolis, NC. In her retirement, she loved volunteering at Atrium Health Cabarrus and was a member of the Red Hat Society for years. She supported many charitable initiatives, but Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child was particularly close to her heart.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Hesroe W. Vaughn, two sisters (Beatrice Goodnight and Belle Goodnight King) and four brothers (Henry L., Lloyd, Harold, and Richard Goodnight).
She is survived by her beloved caregiver and niece, Mrs. Jean Goodnight Anderson of China Grove, and one sister, Mrs. Betty Goodnight McCorkle, age 90 of Rock Hill, SC.
Having no children of her own, she was a very special aunt to her many nieces and nephews who will all miss her tremendously.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, from 1pm to 2 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. A graveside service will be held after the visitation at 2:30 at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Samaritan’s Purse in Aunt Annie’s honor.
