Obituary: Ann Moss Holbrooks 89, died peacefully on July 21st at her home in Kannapolis after a short illness. Ann was born on April 13, 1928 in Kannapolis, the daughter of Jesse Lee Moss and Ida Fortner Moss. She had 4 siblings that all lived within 1 mile of their homes who predeceased her: Harold Moss, CJ "Bunny" Moss, Hazel Bogan and Kay Robinette. Ann lived a wonderful and productive life. She graduated from JW Cannon High School in Kannapolis and Tribeca College in Nashville Tennessee. In her early years in Kannapolis she was involved in numerous community organizations in leadership roles including the Junior Women's Club, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Shady Brook Parents and Teachers organization. Ann married the love of her life, Gene Holbrooks on September 17th, 1948 and over the years they embarked on many endeavors. She worked at Gene's side at Home Realty Company. They also enjoyed horseback riding and made appearances at the Kannapolis Christmas Parade on their horses. Ann and Gene also were fortunate to travel the world with family and friends and enjoyed many family cruises throughout the years. Aside from her total devotion to Gene and her marriage, Ann's most important accomplishment was the raising of their three children: Rodney, Pamela and Mark(deceased in 1968). After her children had graduated from college Ann developed her love of gourmet cooking and took many advanced courses. In the 1990's Ann and Gene purchased the Red Fox Country Club in Tryon, North Carolina. It was there that Ann could utilize her exceptional talent for cooking, baking and entertaining. At Red Fox Ann became celebrated for her homemade desserts and more importantly her Southern Hospitality. She was also a member of the Foxy Lady's charitable organization. She was also involved with the National Kidney Foundation. In addition to her children, Ann was blessed with two Grandchildren, Brian (Jamison) and Nicholas Perkins(Elise) and in the last two years two greatgrandchildren Camden and Boden. They had become one of the joys of her life in retirement. Ann is survived by her husband Gene of 69 years, children Rodney (Christina) Kannapolis, Pamela Perkins (Randall)(Phoenix, MD), Grandchildren Brian Perkins(Jamision), Nicholas Smith Perkins(lElise) and greatgrandchildren Camden and Boden. She has many nieces and nephews in the Kannapolis area as well as South Carolina. Special thanks to her caregivers, Gayle Smith, Lori Whitley, Shelia Fagan and Janet Nigrelli for their continued devotion to Ann and Gene. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Tuesday July 25th 7-9PM and Services will be held at 2PM on Wednesday July 26th at Trinity United Methodist Church. Donation can be made in lieu of flowers to Trinity United Methodist Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
