William Donald ‘Don’ Evans

Kannapolis

William Donald Evans, known as “Don”, 91, of 2707 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kannapolis, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

Born June 1, 1932, Rowan County, NC, he was the son of the late Rev. William Edwin Evans and the late Armer Collins Evans.

Don loved his family.  Together, they enjoyed camping, boat riding, Christian hymns & music, singing in the choir and working at the church.

Don was employed at Cannon Mills for 31 years and foreman in the sheet metal department, worked at Gamewell Mechanical in Salisbury and was also employed at UNC Charlotte as HVAC Technician where he retired.

Prior to his employment, he served in the US Navy in the Korean War, aboard the USS New Jersey Battleship BB62.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church since April 1972, served in various roles: former Sunday School teacher, served on the building and grounds, maintenance, choir member, and fellowship building custodian.

He was a former RA leader at Lakewood Baptist Church as well as a former Assistant Scout Master at Royal Oaks Baptist Church.

Don assisted in organizing and building the Enochville Fire Department and later in years became a member of the Royal Oaks Fire Department where he retired with 22 years of service.  He was also a member of the Cabarrus County Rescue Squad with 15 years of service.  He was a Life Time Member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion Post 115, Kannapolis.

He was a Chairman for Royal Oaks Sanitary District, worked in maintenance, and was on the Kannapolis Charter Commission and Interim City Council.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, 3 daughters, Donna Evans, Deborah Evans Stuart, and Pamela Evans Cox, 3 sisters, Judy E Miller, Mary E Baker, and Allie M Evans and a brother, Carl Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel Boger Evans of Kannapolis, two step sons, Edwin W Boger, III of Kannapolis, and David C Boger and wife Yvette of Salisbury. One sister, Shelia Evans Morton, (husband Tony), and Brother- in-law, Buddy.

Thirteen grandchildren, Tim Bost (wife Christy), Chrissy Crowell (partner Greg Ritchie), Ashley Brawner, Laura Fischer (husband Jonathan), Heather Stanley (husband Rick), Paul Stuart (wife Codi), Eddie Boger (wife Carly), Lisa Worley (husband Rick), Michael Boger (wife Elyssa), Allyson Archer (husband Alex), Mark Stuart, Billy Cox, and Elizabeth Murphy (husband Timothy).

27 Great Grandchildren, (and 1 on the way!) and 1 great-great-granddaughter

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM Tuesday, November 21 at Central Baptist Church. The funeral will be held immediately following. The Rev. Dean Hunter, Rev. Barry Murray, and Rev. Curtis C Parker will officiate.  Interment will be held at Carolina Memorial Park with full Military Rights on Wednesday, November 22, @10 AM.    Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Road, Kannapolis NC  28083.  Whitley Funeral Home in Kannapolis is serving the Evans family.
