Sylvia Jean (Storie) Chandler

Sylvia Jean Storie Chandler, 68, of Concord, N.C. passed away on December 3, 2019.

 She was the daughter of the late Frank James Storie and Johnsie Keller Storie of Lenoir, N.C.

She is survived by two sons Brad Chandler (Sara Chandler) of Madison, W.I. and Richard Chandler (Tiffany de Jesus) of Mooresville, N.C.; a beloved grandson, Edmond Anton Chandler of Madison, W.I.; her sister Carol Ann Storie Yount of Lenoir, N.C.; her brother Fred James Storie (Donna Storie) of Waynesville, N.C.; many nieces and nephews including Christy Stevens of Lenoir, N.C. and Emilee Stevens of Lenoir, N.C.; and many close friends.

Sylvia’s family is proud of her service to her community. She was a Librarian and Media Specialist at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School for 36 years where she shared her passion for reading and learning with thousands of students. She was a committed member of the Alpha Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority for 35 years, where she held many local and state-wide leadership positions. She was also a devoted member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council, taught Sunday School and played in the handbell choir. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a constant source of encouragement to those around her. She graduated from Appalachian State University in 1973 and Hibriten High School in 1969.

A funeral service celebrating Sylvia’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Denton Bennet officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
