James Lanier McCarty, 85, of Kannapolis passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, after a brief period of declining health.
His funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Monday December 23 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kirk Tutterow officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
James was born January 3, 1934 in Colbert, GA, the son of the late James Arthur and Quilla Mae Martin McCarty. He was a long-time area resident and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He worked as a buyer for Duke Power, retiring in 1993. James enjoyed wood-working, gardening and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Metcalf McCarty of the family home, his daughter Melony McCarty Kuyath (Steve) of Kannapolis, his granddaughters Chelsea Kuyath of Boone and Nikki Kuyath Aldridge (Jeremy) of Kannapolis and his 2 great-grandchildren Kahlan and Declan.
