Earl Henderson Pethel, Jr., 65, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Tucker Hospice House, following a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

Earl was born June 18, 1953, in Cabarrus County, a son of Virginia Luke Pethel and the late Earl Henderson Pethel, Sr.

Earl walked to McKnight Elementary School, attended Cannon Junior High and A.L. Brown High School. He was awarded the distinction of Eagle Scout. Junior, as his father called him, was blessed with many talents, including playing the drums, piano, guitar, harmonica and singing. He had a wonderful “green thumb”, and loved to hunt and fish, just like his dad. Earl loved fast cars, music, Jesus and the ladies. Earl met and married the lady of his life, Mary E. “Cissy” Covington, who was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. With Cissy’s love and support, Earl started his own heating and air company in Statesville, which he loved and truly enjoyed. A loving son, brother, uncle and friend, Earl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family members include his mother, Virginia Ingle; his sister, Earlene Pethel; brother, Steve Pethel and his wife, Susie; niece and nephews, Angela Cannon, Keith Cannon Jr., Steve Earl Pethel and Nicholas Ryan Pethel.

Graveside services to remember and celebrate Earl’s life will begin at 11:00 am Thursday, April 18th, at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will speak with friends following the service, at the cemetery.

For those who may prefer, memorials may be made in Earl’s name to National MS Society, 4601 Charlotte Park Dr., Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28217.
