Obituary:
Susan Dale Riggs, 60, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, after extended hospitalization at Carolinas Medical Center.

She was born April 29, 1957 in Concord to James Riggs and the late Grace Hopkins Riggs. Susan attended Winecoff Elementary and graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School.

She was active in early childhood education. Susan received a Bachelor of Science in English from Appalachian State University in 1984. She continued her education at the university with a Master of Arts in Library Science in 1977. Her tenure in education included Odell Elementary, Reid Park Elementary, and Greenway Park Elementary Schools. She also was a librarian at Rowan-Cabarrus College, Concord Campus. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Librarians and served as a committee chair. Susan enjoyed her family and socializing, arts and crafts, horseback riding, and going to movies with friends. She shared a gregarious love for life.

She is survived by her father, James Riggs of Concord; her brother Jim Riggs and his wife Darlene of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; her nephew Alan Riggs of Edenton, North Carolina; and her niece Erin Riggs of Asheville, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mount Olivet Rd., Concord, NC 28025 or the Media Center Fund at Greenway Park Elementary School, 8301 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212.

A service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 20th at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mount Olivet Rd., Concord, NC. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 11 am to 12 pm with service beginning at 12 noon.

"Susan and I graduated from Northwest together in 1975. We went to school together at Winecoff from 1st grade as well. I have so many fond memories of your family. Mrs. Riggs was my substitute teacher many times at Winecoff. I am so thankful for the memories. Susan was a sweet girl. Prayers for peace and comfort for Mr. Riggs and the family."
